LOOF | SCHOOL TEZPUR

The Loof is a pro-bono school project in India which I participated as a sustainability consultant. In this project, the main design ideas were developed and made through environmental analysis and studies.

The project was to build a small primary school in a suburban area located in the Assam State, India. The site has a relatively high level of precipitation and temperature annually, so the main challenge was to deal with this warm and humid climate.

The main concept of the design was to elevate the roof from the building as a way to avoid strong solar heat during the summer and to bring in natural winds to cool down the building just like Bernoulli's effect. Along with the floating roof, we designed the floor plan relatively shallow to allow cross ventilation. The shape of the roof and the sizing of windows were decided based on the solar radiation analysis from DIVA. The airflow around the building was also analyzed to decide the window positions that can maximize cross ventilation.

This project was developed with financial support from Happy I.
