SENEGAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COMPETITION

Collage de la Nature is a holistic design proposal that seeks to address the current challenges of the site while designing a school community that can revitalize the city of Marsassoum by supporting its education system. The individual building heights vary and the roofline tapers to allow variation while serving inherit design solutions of drainage, water collection, ventilation, and daylighting. The bamboo structures, solid walls, clay tiles, stepped roofing with scalloped drapery and wooden framing encapsulate a collage, a patchwork of Senegal's natural tones. As the project proposes to enlarge the program, we redefined a simple grid framework that allows for efficient layouts, while providing a courtyard preserving a Moraceae tree.
